HomeAid OCLA Family Care Center – Transfer to HIS-OC Q&A
-

HomeAid OCLA is steadfastly committed to our mission of providing housing for our community members experiencing or at risk of homelessness. That has included recuperative care, permanent supportive housing, affordable housing and shelters like the Family Care Center. While we have owned the Care Center building, we’ve always hired outside operators to run the program. HIS-OC is the current operator and had an interest in both owning and operating the property, which provided HomeAid the opportunity to both ensure the Family Care Center remained in the continuum of care, while also attaining additional resources to further support the HomeAid mission.
-

No, the Family Care Center will not be lost from the Continuum of Care. HomeAid OCLA remains steadfastly committed to our mission of helping people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. In fact, we saw the sale to HIS-OC, the current care provider, as an opportunity to ensure the Family Care Center remains a resource for families in need of shelter in Orange County.

The Family CareCenter is a 64-bed emergency shelter for Orange County families experiencing homelessness. Opened in July 2017, the Care Center provides desperately needed low-barrier emergency beds to families who find themselves without shelter. To date the CareCenter has provided refuge for 1,473 individuals experiencing homelessness, meeting their basic human needs for shelter, food and safety.

The mission of HIS-OC is to provide support and assistance to the underprivileged and unhoused to improve their quality of life and to help them regain stability and hope. Through shelter, case management, life skills training, and compassionate outreach, HIS-OC empowers individuals and families to rebuild their lives with dignity.

For the Family CareCenter, funding mostly from government/public sources and some private funding. Other projects are often funded privately through individual donations and grants.
-

There are many variables that impact funding for the operations of facilities like the Family Care Center, particularly when we look at public sources like the County and cities. Budget cuts or decisions from the state often impact County and cities as well as local and regional dynamics. We’re grateful to Chairman Wagner for providing $500,000 for this current year to fill the gap so we could serve our most vulnerable neighbors. HIS-OC as the new owner and operator will continue to work with public and private sectors to secure long-term sustainable funding for this rare resource.
