Holidays at FX Residences

Imagine for a moment that today is the first time you’ve had a Christmas tree in years. It’s not for a lack of wanting one, but you lost your housing long ago, and despite your best efforts, you've been unable to secure a safe place to live, until now. The wait is over. Your new Christmas tree sits in the corner of your apartment.

You’re finally home for the holidays.

For the 16 individuals at HomeAid-built FX Residences, this milestone marks their first holiday season as tenants.

The remarkable humans that live there are some of the most vulnerable in our community, and they need our kindness, love, and special care. Yesterday, HomeAid staff and provider partners came together to give gifts to the 16 households at FX that came from generous donors wanting to give back for the holidays. All of the residents were extremely grateful, and some were even surprised, but three took the time to come back down and express their gratitude and share what it meant to them. It’s not often that we get to see the impact of our building projects, but this year HomeAid was grateful to be able to work with three of our partners – Intracorp Homes, Jackson Tidus, and Wienerschnitzel to gift the tenants at FX a Christmas tree, items from their wish lists, and gift cards to purchase basic necessities. Many of the item requests were small: Pringles, Oreos, toilet paper, and a coffee maker.

One of our FX residence guests came back down to the Community Room from his apartment to tell us, with his whole heart beaming, that he had not felt the magic of Christmas for three years since his grandmother passed away on Christmas Eve. As a tear ran down his cheek, a smile began to tug up the corners of his mouth as he told our HomeAid team that “these gifts and the small tree you just gave me made me believe in the spirit of the season once again.”

He gave all the staff great big hugs, and it was a reminder to everyone that this is what the season of giving is meant for. To build a community that strengthens and uplifts those neighbors who need it, and at times like today, it also reminds us.

We are grateful for our generous donors who took the time to organize their staff and shop for the gifts that went to each resident of FX. Not only that, but our donors’ staff carefully wrapped each gift and delivered them to our office with care. A gift card will also be given to each household to help them throughout the holiday season and provide some flexibility in choosing what they need at this time of year.

Thank you once more for joining us in building better lives and helping bring a merrier holiday to our community.
